The President of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF) Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, has been unanimously elected as the 1st Vice President of the West African Football Union (WAFU) Zone B.
The historic election took place on Friday in Niamey, Niger Republic, during the 17th Ordinary Assembly of WAFU Zone B.
The assembly, held at the Mahatma Gandhi International Conference Centre, coincided with the CAF African Schools Football Championship in the region.
Gusau’s appointment solidifies Nigeria’s continued influence in West African football leadership.
He will serve alongside Ghana Football Association President Kurt Edwin-Simeon Okraku, who was elected WAFU Zone B President, and Burkina Faso Football Federation President Oumarou Sawadogo, who takes on the role of 2nd Vice President.
WAFU Zone B comprises seven member nations: Nigeria, Togo, Benin Republic, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Niger Republic, and Côte d’Ivoire.
Since becoming NFF President in September 2022, Gusau has built an impressive resume in African football governance.
His roles include serving on the Organizing Committee for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) and contributing as a top security officer for both FIFA and CAF.
His election continues Nigeria’s legacy of strong leadership within WAFU, following in the footsteps of pioneers like Joseph Kwamina Tandoh and influential figures such as Jonathan Boytie Ogufere, Abdulmumini Aminu, and Amos Adamu.
This achievement highlights the enduring impact of Nigeria on football governance in West Africa, setting the stage for further advancements in the region’s football development.
