The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president, Ibrahim Gusau has debunked reports suggesting that France women’s national team coach, Hervé Renard is being considered for the role of Super Eagles technical adviser.
Renard, who is currently leading the French women’s national team, announced his intention to vacate his position after the Paris Olympic Games next month.
This announcement led to speculation that he might be approached for the vacant Super Eagles head coach position, with rumors suggesting that the NFF had contacted the two-time Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) winning coach.
However, in a chat with The PUNCH, Gusau stated, “I am not aware of that for now.”
Regarding claims that the NFF would need to pay Renard a hefty $180,000 monthly salary, Gusau further dismissed these rumors.
“Did you see it from any NFF communication channel? It is from some of those that are always trying to create confusion,” he added.
Hervé Renard has an impressive track record, having previously managed the Zambian national team to victory in the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations and repeating the feat in 2015 with Cote d’Ivoire, making him the first coach to win two AFCON titles with different teams.
