NFF Election: Balele Kurfi backs North Western aspirants

A Member of the NFF technical committee, Balele Kurfi is hoping that the next President or the Vice President of the NFF comes out of the North Western geo-political zone of the country.

Two Northwest aspirants Musa Ahmadu and Ibrahim Gusau have already declared their intention to run for the NFF Presidency, with more to follow according to reports in the media.

In his words, “please, let’s go and ensure this election is peaceful and doable, and we achieve and bring the most credible candidate and within the FA members, whoever is the best either from any regions in the country South-South, Southwest, Northeast, North Central. And if we get it, we can’t reject it, the Northwest, you know we are very good and smart in getting the slot.”

“There is nothing bad if the whole of Nigerians agrees and endorses Northwest and if we cannot get the president, we will accept the vice president. Football is born in the Northwest so, whether you like it or not, the vice President or the president must come from either north-west so, other five regions can produce their president but as for us in the Northwest, Insha Allah, we are hoping and praying either in two ways, we are not going to succumb to pressure,”  Balele said.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Electoral Committee 2022 earlier released the timetable for the NFF elections slated to hold Friday, 30th September in Benin City, Edo State.

The election will see a new administration take over from the Amaju Pinnick administration that has held sway over Nigeria football for eight years.

According to the committee, the electoral process will begin on Monday, 29th August with the sales of nomination forms, endorsements, and return of forms. It is expected to span till Thursday, 8th September 2022.

The screening of the candidates is fixed for Friday, 9th, and Saturday, 10th September with the shortlist of successful candidates to be announced on the 12th by the electoral committee.
