The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has refuted claims that it has approached French coach Herve Renard to fill the vacant Super Eagles coaching role.
The NFF are searching for a new coach for the three-time African Champions following the resignation of Finidi George.
Several candidates have been linked with the job, but none seem to be close to becoming Finidi’s successor.
Reports from Africa Soccer on Monday suggested that the NFF was in discussions with Renard to take over the team.
However, a senior official from the NFF told BBC Africa, “This report is inaccurate. We’ve not contacted Renard or his representatives.”
The NFF hopes to hire a replacement ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers beginning in September.
Currently, Nigeria is struggling in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying group, sitting second-bottom without a win and trailing four points behind the top two teams.
