Next Super Eagles Coach must live in Nigeria — NFF Technical Committe

Elder Paul Bassey has said Nigeria Football Federation is only interested in hiring a reputable manager for the Super Eagles.

Bassey who is a member of the NFF Technical Committee disclosed this in an exclusive interview with Brila FM.

Bassey who is also the Chairman of the NPFL side Akwa United explained the coach must have experience at the highest level and will be allowed to come with at least two assistants.

He said: “Although, some people said Westerhoff came here with little or no CV and he did well. But then we have to be careful. We are looking for a coach that is well established, with experience at the club and national team. Not the one who spent one year here and there .”

“There is also a window for two assistants. However, it depends on much we negotiate and if he’s going to pay them or we pay them.

The seasoned football administrator, stressed further that, the coach will be mandated to live in Nigeria and work with Super Eagles Team B (Chan Eagles)

“We also recommended that any coach coming in must be responsible for the Chan Eagles and must spend 80% of his time here in Nigeria. He must attend league matches, in order to monitor players.”

“It is not just about qualifying for the World Cup. Work must be done on the league players and the development of the game.” He concluded.

Meanwhile, big names like Ernesto Valverde, Lauren Blanc, Anthony Conceicao, and Jose Peseiro are said to be the leading candidates for the position.

The NFF is expected to announce their choice next week.
