New Rangers’ boss Philippe Clement admits Dessers poor run of form

Philippe Clement, the new Rangers’ boss, has admitted Cyriel Dessers, is not at his best at the moment.

The Super Eagles forward joined the Gers from Cremonese for fee in the region of £5.6m during last transfer window.

The 28-year-old hasn’t live to expectation since areiving in Scotland, scoring only one goal in the Scottish Premiership and was subsequently dropped by former manager Michael Beale.

Clement says he is aware of Dessers’ past achievements, particularly with Feyenoord in the Eredivisie and the UEFA Europa Conference League.

“I’ve seen Cyriel doing a better job in Holland than in Belgium also. He was better in Feyenoord than here.

“There’s no reason he’ll get more attention because he’s a Belgian guy, all the players are starting from the same level.

“Whether you’re Belgian, Scottish, British, 32 or 18, everybody starts the same. Then we’ll see who is in the best shape. We need a big squad where everyone is ready.”

Dessers will now hope to get more opportunity to showcase his skills under the new boss at the Ibrox.

The former Scottish Champions will face Hibernian at the Ibrox Stadium this weekend.
