Major League Soccer (MLS) side, New England Revolution have secured the signing of Super Eagles central midfielder, Alhassan Yusuf from Belgian club Royal Antwerp FC for an undisclosed fee.
The 24-year old reportedly joins the team through the season-ending injury replacement mechanism.
Yusuf joins the New England Revolution after spending three years with Royal Antwerp in the Belgian top division. While there, he was voted the team’s August 2022 Player of the Month and took home three trophies, including the 2022-23 Belgian Cup and the 2022-23 Belgian Pro League title.
Head Coach Caleb Porter added, “With his international and Champions League experience, I expect Alhassan Yusuf to quickly become one of the best midfielders in Major League Soccer. Yusuf is a box-to-box midfielder who is strong both in defense and attack. He is in the prime of his career and has the qualities we need.”
Alhassan Yusuf has played seven times for Nigeria’s national team in 2024. He made his debut in January against Guinea and played in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, including a substitute appearance in the final where Nigeria finished as runners-up. He also played in FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin.
The Revolution will return to MLS action on Saturday, August 24, when they visit CF Montreal.
