Trabzonspor’s head coach, Nenad Bjelica, expressed regret over substituting Paul Onuachu during their Turkish Super Lig match against Hatayspor on Monday.
Onuachu put Trabzonspor in driving seat for three points, scoring a goal and assisted one before being substituted.
The decision proved costly as Hatayspor came from behind to win game 3-2.
Bjelica however acknowledged the mistake, stating that he substituted the forward because he wanted to add fresh players to the game.
“We aimed to win the match. We made player changes to win the match. Paul Onuachu and Abdülkadir Ömür made a lot of effort.
“We wanted to replace them and add fresh players to the game. We made the same changes as the Beşiktaş match.
“Things went well in that match, but not as we wanted in this match,” said Bjelica, who congratulated their hosts, saying, “First of all, I congratulate our opponent, Hatayspor.
Onuachu, who is on loan from Southampton, has two goals and one assist in his first two appearances.
