Nduka Ugbade tips Eaglets to progress to senior team, despite AFCON exit

Nduka Ugbade believes the Golden Eaglets were unlucky to crash out of the 2023 U17 African Cup of Nations, insisting they gave everything through out their stay in the tournament.

The Eaglets lost 2-1 to Junior Stallions of Burkina Faso in their quarter final clash at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Algiers on Thursday.

The two time Champions dominated, but paid the price for their prolificacy in front of goal as Burkina Faso struck twice from nothing to take the game.

The defeat ended Nigeria’s hope of a third title and qualification to the FIFA World Cup.

Ugbade however reveals, the players are heart broken, stressing that the Federation must not abandoned them in this difficult moment.

“The players are disappointed of course because they are young but we must support them because they need to continue their careers.

“We should work on their development because I believe that some of these players will eventually move to the senior national team,” The tactician said after the defeat to Burkina Faso.
