Wilfred Ndidi and his Leicester City teammates endured another woeful outing as they fell to a crushing 3-0 defeat against Newcastle United at the King Power Stadium in Monday’s Premier League fixture.
The loss etched an unwanted record into the club’s history books as Leicester have now become the first team in English Football League history to lose eight consecutive home games without scoring a single goal.
The Foxes’ downward spiral continued, extending their winless run to ten straight matches since their last victory, a 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur in January.
Their latest defeat further cements their position in the relegation zone, sitting 19th in the league with just 17 points, a staggering 15 points away from safety.
It took Newcastle just two minutes to break the deadlock. Tino Livramento delivered a low cross into the box which Jacob Murphy tapped home at the back post.
Murphy doubled his tally in the 11th minute after Fabian Schär’s strike came off the bar and landed perfectly for him to finish.
Newcastle made it 3-0 before half-time, as Harvey Barnes reacted quickest to a rebound from Joelinton’s saved shot in the 34th minute to seal the Magpies’ emphatic win.
Ndidi featured for the full 90 minutes, marking his 22nd league appearance of the season. However, his efforts could do little to stop Leicester’s freefall in the league standings.
Newcastle, meanwhile, climbed to fifth place with 53 points, level with fourth-placed Chelsea but trailing on goal difference. Their Champions League hopes remain alive with just a few games left to play.
For Leicester and Ndidi, the nightmare continues. With each passing match, their hopes of Premier League survival grow dimmer. The pressure mounts as time runs out to stage a miracle escape from relegation.
They must find answers quickly to avoid Championship football next season.
