NBBF set to refresh Referees

The Nigeria Basketball Federation is set to organize a 3- days refresher course for all referees within the country, as the federation, step up its commitment towards the development of key stakeholders in basketball.

The event is scheduled for October 23rd and 26th and will be anchored by two experience FIBA badged referees, Kingsley Ojeaburu and Ogunleye Opeyemi in Lagos.

NBBF President, Engr. Musa Kida stated it was important for the federation to spread its developmental programs across to all stakeholders.

“We cannot get the best out of our players from our leagues if we don’t have sound referees and coaches. The relationship between coaches, players and referees is symbiotic. So as we are focused on improving our output from the grassroots, we also need to pay special attention to our referees and coaches.”

Kida added that the state, Zonal and Conference phases of the Total sponsored National Division 2 is a welcome development and stressed on the need for referees to undergo refresher courses in order not to be left behind in the new basketball rules governing the game.

The NBBF also said the training will be free for all referees who will be attending, with exercise being sponsored by Total Nigeria in collaboration with the NBBF.
