The rift in the Nigeria Basketball Federation ( NBBF ) is so deep, even the Court of Arbitration for Sports will wash its hands off the matter according to President of FIBA West Africa Zone 3, Sam Ahmedu.

Stakeholders in the NBBF havebeen at loggerheads over the provisions of the latest election guidelines for Federation elections.

Section 3.2 sub ii) rules on eligibility states that ” President and Vice Presidential candidates who have served two (2) consecutive terms as President of their National Sports Federation shall not contest for the post of President of that federation.

This clause effectively rules out the incumbent President and Vice President of the NBBF; both of whom have served two consecutive terms, and Ahmedu has counseled them against filing an appeal with CAS.

Ahmedu insists that the aggrieved persons will be referred back to “local laws”.

He urged them to rather align with “what they have on ground.”

Elctions into the offices of President and Vice Presidents in the Federation will hold 9 June.
