Nigeria’s Sports Minister, Hon. Sunday Dare has stated that the National Sports Festival has not been postponed indefinitely.
Speaking to newsmen in Abuja, Dare stated that the Ministry is working assiduously with the PTF on COVID-19 to make sure all things are in place accordingly and also he added, the athletes and also cooperate bodies had invested a lot which is one reason they can’t afford not to host the competition.
“I know what it means for the Nigeria sportsmen and women, I know what it means for Sports development, I know what it means for the investments that have gone on the part of the government and also individual athletes, not to talk of the income that comes to them, they have been at home for several months now.”
“They have gone rusty this is why we have to open three camps on Friday, one in Lagos, Pankshin and one in Abuja, it was meant to be for twelve days but I have extended it for two weeks to give them the benefit of 18 to 19days so that we can get them to fully started, it is our desire to hold it this year, let me set the record straight, it has not been postponed indefinitely we are just trying to decide on the date to make sure that, both our athletes and the conditions put in place can be met and fulfilled, he stated.”
The National sports festival’s commencement date has been shifted from the 3rd of December to the 3rd of January – it is now been reported that the date will suffer another postponement to the 3rd of February 2021.
