Southampton are in active pursuit of Nigerian defender Bright Osayi-Samuel, who currently plays for Turkish side Fenerbahce.

The English club has reportedly made a £6.5 million offer for the versatile player.

Osayi-Samuel has one year remaining on his contract with Fenerbahce, who are eager to secure him with a new deal.

New manager Jose Mourinho values the Nigerian highly and aims to keep him in Turkey.

Mourinho is focused on building a formidable squad to challenge for the title next season and considers Osayi-Samuel a key member of the team.

Last season, the defender made 23 league appearances for Fenerbahce.

He resumed pre-season training with the club on Friday.
