Paolo Maldini, is critical of Milan’s decision to heavily on Nigerian winger Samuel Chukwueze and English midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheeks.
Milan has struggled both in Europe and domestic scene despite spending huge amount of money in the last transfer window.
The Rossoneri splash €30m Chukwueze from Villarreal in a five year deal and Loftus-Cheeks from Chelsea for €18m from Chelsea.
The performance of these high-profile signings has not lived up to expectations, with both players contributing only one goal and an assist each in twelve games for AC Milan.
Maldini, who was dismissed from his role as technical director on June 5, asserted in the interview that the acquisitions of Chukwueze and Loftus-Cheek appear to be needless, raising questions about the club’s strategic decision-making in the transfer market.
“There was no need to sign Loftus-Cheek, Pulisic and Chukwueze,” Maldini said.
“You cannot compare the previous four transfer windows to the last one. Milan had different quality options unlike this summer.
During his time at the Club, Madrid masterminded the return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and signing of important players, including Theo Hernandez, Rafael Leao, Mike Maignan and Fikayo Tomori.
“I would like to point out that all the players who arrived were approved by me, nothing or no-one was ever imposed on me, also because I would’ve left the next day.
“The signing of Zlatan, in his time, required several meetings.” He said.
