In an exclusive interview with CNN, ex-Super Eagles captain John Mikel has expressed his desire to re-engage with the Nigerian senior national football team in the near future.
Although ruling out a coaching role, Mikel revealed his openness to assuming an administrative position within the team.
“I’ll to be involved with the national team at some point.” He said.
“But not as a coach because I don’t want to get sacked (laugh), I can’t handle that.
“However I’ll like to fix the problems from the top, maybe mediate between the players and Federation and make sure things are run properly.
Mikel, a highly successful and decorated football player from Nigeria, boasts an impressive career that includes winning a FIFA U20 World Cup silver medal, an Olympics bronze medal, and the 2013 African Cup of Nations.
“To me success is not about what happened on the pitch, but with right structures from the top as well.
“I still maintain huge respect from the players and the fans, so definitely I’ll love to be involved again in the future, but let’s see how the Nations Cup goes.
The former Chelsea star left an indelible mark, having also participated in the FIFA U17 World Cup and two FIFA Senior World Cups.
