Former Super Eagles captain, Mikel Obi has underscored Victor Osimhen’s pivotal role in the current team, despite the rising impact of Ademola Lookman and presence of William Troost-Ekong.
Troost-Ekong, the team captain, was voted MVP at the Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire, and has been a cornerstone of Nigeria’s defense.
Ademola Lookman, currently a top contender for the CAF Player of the Year award and a 2024 Ballon d’Or nominee, has also been in fine form, scoring twice in two games.
Osimhen, playing his first competitive game in four months due to injury and transfer dispute with Napoli, made a strong return by scoring in Nigeria’s recent match against Benin Republic.
The striker came on in the second half and scored six minutes after his introduction.
“Victor is the main man,” Mikel Obi stated.
“He proved it just six minutes into the game by scoring. His confidence and striking ability were evident, and if he maintains this form with both the national team and Galatasaray, he will be unstoppable.”
“His goal was a testament to his striking prowess and precision, smashing it into the top corner with assurance,” Mikel said on his podcast.
