Mikel Obi inspires Tianjin Teda to first league win

48 hours before game day, Mikel Obi predicted a tough game for Tianjin Teda when they host Tianjin Quanjian and the fans certainly got their money’s worth at the end of 90 minutes.

Tianjin Teda’s resurgent in the final moments of the game to wrap up a dramatic 3-2 victory with Mikel Obi notching up two assists for hat-trick hero Frank Acheampong.

Both teams competed gruesomely and the center referee was busy from the get go; issuing 11 yellow cards – the first coming in the first 4 minutes – and one to Mikel in minute 39.

Alexandre Pato also registered his name on the scoresheet with a 54th minute strike cancel out the first goal scored by Ghanaian star, Acheampong dished him by the Super Eagles captain.

Former Chelsea teammates, Mikel and Pato made the duel a real delight and by the time Anthony Modeste gave the visitors the lead, it looked like a hope and three points were lost again for Uli Stielike’s men.

But, Mikel and Acheampong had different ideas. Both combined again for the latter’s second on the day with six minutes left on the clock.

Then on the stroke of regulation time, the 24-year-old Ghanaian striker clinched the winner to hand Tianjin Teda their first win of the season.
