John Mikel Obi says a return to England is a strong possibility, but wouldn’t be drawn on any specific interest from Stoke City or West Bromwich Albion.
Mikel has emerged as a contender as Micheal O’Neill tries to add to his midfield this summer.
The 33-year-old former Chelsea stalwart is a free agent after leaving title-chasing Trabzonspor in March, having played alongside Stoke outcast Badou Ndiaye.
Speaking to BBC Africa Sports on speculation regarding his future, the former Super Eagles captain said:
“Yes, there are interested clubs and England is a strong possibility and why not.”
“We are currently in talks with clubs and there is absolutely no hurry. I can only wait to see what happens.”
Mikel won the Champions League, Europa League, two Premier League titles and three FA cups with Chelsea during an 11-year stay and played under Tony Pulis at Middlesbrough before heading to Turkey.
He also had a spell in China with Tianjin TEDA.
