Former Super Eagles and Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has weighed in on this season’s UEFA Champions League outlook during his appearance as a guest at the quarter-final draw on Friday.

Mikel, who participated in selecting the balls for the draw, expressed his support for Manchester City and Arsenal to vie for a spot in the final showdown.

The draw, marking the conclusion of the current format, unveiled matchups for the quarter-finals as the tournament transitions to a 36-team format starting next season.

Among the pairings, Arsenal is set to square off against Bayern Munich, while Manchester City will clash with Real Madrid in the last eight.

Prior to the draw, Mikel highlighted his preference for an English club to advance to the final citing the venue — Wembley for the championship match.

He stated, “The final will be held in Wembley, England so I would like an English club to make it into the final. I hope Manchester City or Arsenal make it.”

Manchester City, reigning champions, seek to defend their title after securing the trophy last season, while Arsenal, with their last final appearance dating back to 2006, aim to stage a comeback on the European stage.

Should both English sides progress from the quarter-finals, they would potentially meet in the semi-finals, setting the stage for a thrilling domestic showdown en route to the ultimate prize.
