Midfielder Afeez Aremu joins Kaiserslautern

German Bundesliga 2 side, 1. FC Kaiserslautern have signed Nigerian midfielder Afeez Aremu from St Pauli.

Aremu, 23, signed a two-year deal with an option for another year with the club.

The former Nigerian junior international said the move is the next step in his career development.

He made 54 appearances for St Pauli in over three seasons before his departure.

“It was important for me to take the next development step in my career,” Aremu said.

“Kaiserslautern, one of the most traditional clubs, is a top club in Germany.

“The talks with those responsible for my decision were very good. I immediately felt at home here and I hope that I can get some playing time so that I can make the season a success together with the team “I’m happy to be here and can’t wait to get started. I look forward to the fans at the stadium.”

Kaiserslautern’s Managing Director, Thomas Hengen, believes Aremu’s arrival will increase competition in the team’s midfield.

“Afeez is a very strong defensive player who has a lot of athleticism and dynamism and therefore fits in very well with the etzenberg and our game idea,”Hengen told the club website.

“He will revive the competition in midfield again. We are sure that he (Aremu) still has a lot of potential for development, although he was able to gain a lot of experience in professional football at his young age.”
