Men’s basketball: D’tigers bow to Italy, crash out of Tokyo 2020

D’Tigers have crashed out of Tokyo Olympic after losing final group game to Italy, this Saturday morning.

The Mike Brown’s side lost the 80-71 to bow out of the Men’s Basketball event without a win.

Nigeria needed to win the game to stand a chance of reaching the last eight and they were doing just that, until poor fourth quarter allowed the Italians to snatched the game from their nose.

Italy opened a fourteen points lead in the first half, but D’tigers fought to close the gap as both team went into the break with Italy leading 40-39.

Nigeria came out on top at the end of the  third quarter, leading by 63-56, thanks to Chimezie Metu’s inspirational performance.

However a sloppy start to the fourth quarter saw them picked just one point, while the Italians hit nine to cruise back into the lead.

The fourth quarter ended 24-8 in the favor of the Italians and Nigeria bowed out of the Olympics without a win.

The Mike Brown team also lost to Australia and Germany in the previous matches.
