With the 2024 Euros taking place this summer, there will be many football fans the world over who will be keeping a keen interest on what happens out in Germany over the course of June and July.
The event is one of the biggest football competitions on the planet, with many of the world’s best players taking to the pitch for supremacy of the European continent.
Two of the world’s leading strikers will be on show in Germany throughout the tournament, with Kylian Mbappé and Harry Kane both set to lead the line for their respective nations. As a result, this has led to some intrigue about which striker will be the main man at the 2024 Euros, and win the Golden Boot award at the end of the campaign…
Kylian Mbappé: Real Madrid’s new French star
Kylian Mbappé has already been in the news headlines this summer, as he completed his not-so-secret or surprising move to Real Madrid. The French striker will have known that this would have been happening for months, and it’s unlikely to have ruined or interfered with his preparation for the European Championships.
He recently revealed in an interview that it is the only title that he is yet to win with his national team, and that could be enough to provide him and Les Bleus to finally get their hands on a trophy that they have not won since 2000. They crashed out in the Round of 16 at the last edition of the tournament, having been runners-up in 2016. This year’s event will follow their heartache in the 2022 FIFA World Cup Final, having lost to Leo Messi’s Argentina in a penalty shootout.
Kylian Mbappé did finish that tournament as the Golden Boot winner, having netted eight times. This included a hat-trick in the final and is perhaps the reason why he is the leading favorite to be the Euro 2024 Golden Boot winner. If you’re considering the betting EURO 2024 markets, the forward is priced at 5.50 ahead of the tournament.
Harry Kane: England’s leading man
Although there may have been a lot of focus on other players in the England team (Jude Bellingham, Kobbie Mainoo, etc.), Harry Kane will still remain the main point of England’s team this summer.
The skipper will want to try and finally end England’s near-sixty-year hurting in major finals, and came very close in the 2020 Euro competition. He led the Three Lions to the final, where they were undone by Italy in a penalty shootout.
In that tournament, the Bayern Munich forward had managed to score four goals, just one behind the eventual top goalscorers (Cristiano Ronaldo and Patrik Schick). Again, he is expected to challenge for the Golden Boot this season, as England are likely to focus on him as their attacking output, despite the fact that they have several top attacking options available in their squad. The latest bookmaker odds have him second in the list, having him priced at 6.50.
Mbappé or Kane? Which marksman would you pick to be the 2024 Euros Golden Boot winner?
It’s not a surprise these are the two individuals who are thought to be the main contenders for the 2024 Euros Golden Boot. Both are widely regarded to be among the best marksmen in world football and their 23/24 club seasons perhaps attest to those thoughts.
Mbappé had managed to net 44 goals in his 48 appearances in his final season for PSG, including 27 in 29 Ligue 1 matches. Kane’s debut season in the German Bundesliga couldn’t have gone any better for Bayern (despite not winning the title for the first time in over a decade), as he netted 36 goals in his 32 games. In total, the English forward managed to score 44 in 45.
When looking at the odds for the 2024 Euros Golden Boot, there isn’t another player that is close to them. Cristiano Ronaldo is next, but with odds of 12.00, he is quite far behind. Of course, it probably helps that England and France are the two main favorites to win the entire competition, and with Mbappé and Kane involved, it wouldn’t be a surprise if there were double honors come July 14 and once the final has been played.
