Brazilian football legend Marta commended Nigeria, acknowledging the Team’s strength as a formidable opponent.
In the opening Group C match of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games women’s football event, Brazil narrowly defeated Nigeria 1-0 on Thursday.
Gabriela Nunes Da Silva scored the decisive goal, beating Chiamaka Nnadozie from the near post.
“For us, it was a hard game. We knew Nigeria would be a hard nut to crack,” Marta told Sport Village after the game.
“It was very difficult to score against them. They are fast players and have a very good goalkeeper.
“They are also good at passing the ball. We got our chance and we made use of it. Overall, we deserve the three points.”
Nigeria is set to face Spain in their second match, while Brazil will compete against Japan.
