Marco Asensio insists Real Madrid deserved to win Spanish Super Cup tie against Barcelona

Marco Asensio said Real Madrid were the better team and deserved to win the Supercopa de Espana as the Spanish sensation revelled in his two goals against Barcelona.

Real Madrid were the better team over two legs and fully deserved their triumph over Barcelona in the final of the Spanish Super Cup, according to Marco Asensio.

The young star scored in both legs as Real cruised to a convincing 5-1 aggregate victory to claim the first piece of silverware in Spain this season.

The 21-year-old opened the scoring in the return leg at the Bernabeu on Wednesday night before Karim Benzema wrapped up the victory, just three days after a 3-1 win at the Nou Camp.

Asensio admits he will look back at the two-legged tie with pride as he looks to build on an impressive start to his career.

‘My two goals in the Spanish Super Cup were great and I will look back on them fondly,’ the Spanish international said

‘The fans show us incredible support and so naturally we want to reward them with titles.

‘We were playing at home and had to really turn it on, and we created opportunities, we played the better football over the tie.’

Asensio scored 10 times in 38 appearances last year, including the clinching goal in the 4-1 Champions League final win over Juventus in June.
