Nigeria’s U17 Head Coach Manu Garba says the team’s 2013 set are the best generation of Golden Eaglets he has seen ever since inception.
Golden Eaglets won the FIFA U17 World Cup in 2013 and then again in 2015 to bring Nigeria’s total first-place finish to 5, but of all the generations 2013 still stands out Garba argues.
“The difference is that the 2013 team had a lot of time to prepare and they also played quality friendly games; both home and abroad,” Garba said.
Garba now has the task of building another team capable of repeating the feat of 2013, but the Coach admits the job is tougher now.
“However, different players come in a different generation, with the current players, we want to try as much as possible to tutor; technically, tactically, physically and psychologically, so that they can be very strong before the World Cup.
“We have only two times to prepare, but I must tell you that, the 2013 team is one of the best crops of U17 players I have ever seen.”
