Manchester United’s Lisandro Martínez Suffers Season-Ending Injury

Manchester United defender, Lisandro Martínez has suffered a cruciate ligament injury and will miss the rest of the season, the club has confirmed.

Martínez was stretchered off in the second half of United’s 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace on Sunday following a collision with winger Ismaïla Sarr.

The Argentina international is expected to be sidelined for more than six months, ruling him out of action for both club and country.

In an official statement released on Thursday, Manchester United said:

“Manchester United can confirm that Lisandro Martínez suffered an injury to his cruciate ligament in Sunday’s game against Crystal Palace.”

“Assessment of the injury is ongoing to determine the appropriate course of treatment and the timescale for his rehabilitation.”

“Everyone at Manchester United wishes Lisandro Martínez strength for a successful recovery and we will be supporting him every step of the way.”

The injury is another setback for Martínez, who has endured a difficult season with multiple fitness concerns.

Meanwhile, United Coach, Rúben Amorim also spoke about Martínez’s situation during a press conference on Thursday, saying:

“Licha [Martínez] is a difficult situation. He’s going to be out for a while. We don’t know the extent of the injury but it’s going to take time.”

Martínez’s absence is a significant blow for Argentina as well, with the reigning world champions set to face Uruguay and Brazil in the CONMEBOL 2026 World Cup qualifiers in March.

Argentina currently leads the standings, sitting five points ahead of Uruguay.

In other Premier League news, Arsenal stars Bukayo Saka and Ben White have traveled with the squad to Dubai for a warm-weather training camp.

With the Gunners out of the FA Cup following their defeat to Manchester United, manager Mikel Arteta has taken advantage of the mid-season break to prepare his squad ahead of their next match against Leicester City on February 15.

Arsenal confirmed the trip on social media, posting:

Saka, who underwent hamstring surgery in December, has been working on his recovery, while White has been sidelined since November due to a knee procedure.

Their inclusion in the traveling squad suggests they could return to action soon.

Arteta recently commented on White’s status, stating:

“He would likely be fit again after the break.”

Gabriel Martinelli, who suffered a hamstring injury in Arsenal’s defeat to Newcastle United, was also spotted among the group.

The north London club is using the same facilities in Dubai as they did last year, hoping to rejuvenate their squad before resuming their Premier League campaign.
