Manchester City earned a much-needed 2-0 victory over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Sunday, with goals from Savinho and Erling Haaland helping the defending champions bounce back from a disappointing draw against Everton.
The win marked a rare bright spot in what has been a difficult run of form for Pep Guardiola’s side, who had managed just one win in their previous 13 Premier League matches.
How It Happened
City took control of the game early on, with Savinho opening the scoring in the 21st minute.
The 19-year-old Brazilian showed sharp instincts to pounce on a rebound, firing home to give the visitors the lead.
Leicester struggled to mount a meaningful response as Manchester City dominated possession and dictated the tempo of the match.
The Foxes’ frustration began to show in the second half, with Boubakary Soumaré and Bilal El Khannous picking up yellow cards in the 56th and 65th minutes, respectively.
City doubled their lead in the 74th minute when Haaland calmly headed in from a Savinho assist.
The Norwegian striker’s composure in front of goal effectively sealed the victory, leaving Leicester with no route back into the match.
Speaking at the game pre-match, Guardiola reiterated his commitment to overcoming their recent struggles.
“I will not give up. I want to be here. I want to do it, and with the situation that we have, we have to do it,” Guardiola said.
The City manager mentioned the challenges posed by injuries to key players, including Rodri, Ruben Dias, John Stones, and Kyle Walker.
“For how many years we were incredibly consistent, but now, yes, we’re a little bit down and the main reason is having so many important players injured. But I saw the team spirit, how we trained this week, how focused they are, how they try to practise,” Guardiola added.
City’s Current Position
The win moves Manchester City provisionally fifth on the Premier League table, though they remain off the pace in their bid to retain the title.
With six league titles in the last seven seasons, the pressure is mounting on Guardiola to turn things around as Liverpool continue to dominate at the top.
