Plateau United coach Abdul Maikaba has stated that traveling long distances is disturbing his team and other teams’ fitness level in the Nigerian professional football league.
Plateau United will play their NPFL match on Monday after a long journey from Plateau State to far away Akwa Ibom in the South-South region of the country.
Maikaba told brila.net that some of his players that had stayed longer injured have started returning to full action football but he is concerned that too many long-distance travels may cause another setback for him and the team.
“We had played midweek, and last weekend, it is difficult because we need to rest some players. Itodo, for instance, has been long injured since the covid 19 period, he is back now but long distance can cause a setback if not managed properly.
“After a hectic game, you will have to travel a long journey to Uyo which is a very long distance of 12 hours on the road – this will definitely have an effect on the players.”
