Former Flying Eagles assistant coach and current Plateau United coach Abdul Maikaba has urged the NFF to make the age-grade national teams home-based specific.
Maikaba made this call after observing that the neglect of home-based footballers by National team handlers has also been extended into the junior football cadres.
In a chat with brila.net, the league leaders coach expressed concerns about the whole thing while emphasizing the need for the homegrown lads to enjoy their God-given talent and exercising through the age-grade National teams.
“The nucleus of the team should be for players at home, I think the NFF should tell the coaches that will handle any of the age-grade national teams to consider this,’ Maikaba said.
“Players that are based at home should be given preference when it comes to the age-grade cadres, but in the situation where we have one or two talents outside we would involve them because they are also Nigerians. “he said.
