Olympique Lyon has reportedly turned down offers from RC Lens and TSG Hoffenheim for Nigerian striker Gift Orban, signaling a high-stakes transfer battle ahead of the January window.
According to Foot Mercato, Lens submitted an €8 million bid for the 21-year-old, which Lyon promptly rejected, standing firm on their €12 million valuation.
Bundesliga side Hoffenheim has been more aggressive in their pursuit, submitting two offers, the latest reaching €10 million, but Lyon remains unmoved.
Gift Orban, who joined Lyon from Belgian Pro League side KAA Gent in January 2023, has found opportunities limited at the French club. Despite being excluded from the squad for several weeks, the Nigerian forward has managed to net two goals this season.
With his contract running until 2028, Lyon appears ready to cash in, and Orban’s departure seems inevitable.
Both Lens and Hoffenheim are eager to secure his services, recognizing his untapped potential and impressive goal-scoring ability.
Lens, currently 7th in Ligue 1, is in a stronger league position compared to Hoffenheim, who sit 15th in the Bundesliga after 15 matches.
The French club has also shown long-standing interest in Orban, having attempted to sign him last summer.
As the January transfer window approaches, the two clubs will need to meet Lyon’s €12 million asking price if they hope to land the talented striker. For Orban, the next few weeks could determine the next chapter of his burgeoning career.
