Ademola Lookman scored and provided an assist as Atalanta twice fought back to beat Fiorentina 3-2 in a thrilling Serie A match, on Sunday.
Fresh from impressive outing during the international window with Nigeria where he scored twice in two games, Lookman made sure La Dea picked valuable three points in their first home game of the season, after returning to Gewiss Stadium.
Rolando Mandragora gave Fiorentina the lead in the opening with a fine strike that beat Marco Carnesecchi.
Atalanta restored parity moments later thanks to a wonderful skill from the Nigeria international who skipped away down the left from Edoardo Bove before floating in the cross for Mateo Retegui’s header.
Atalanta then fell behind again few minutes later with Moise Kean scoring a free header to reinstall the visitors lead.
Fiorentina almost made it 3-1 two minutes later, when Kean got away from Isak Hien only to thump the near post from a tight angle.
Atalanta punished the Viola for missing the chance as Charles De Ketelaere got the equaliser, rising above the crowd to nod in Ederson’s cross from a set play.
With few minutes to the end of the first half, Atalanta went 3-2 up, as Lookman cut inside from the left and squirmed his finish through a sea of legs into the near bottom corner.
There was no further goal in the second half as Lookman’s goal proved to be the winner.
