Ademola Lookman has released an emotional statement to Atalanta fans after completing his departure to join Atlético Madrid.
The Nigerian forward spent three-and-a-half years at Atalanta, where he made 137 appearances and established himself as one of the greatest players in the club’s history.

In a heartfelt message shared with supporters, Lookman wrote:
“To the Atalanta family, after nearly four years, the time has come for me to say goodbye. From the moment I arrived in Bergamo, you welcomed me like one of your own and pushed me to be the best version of we achieved extraordinary times. Every cheer, every banner, every away trip meant something. Thank you for making Bergamo feel like home and for giving me memories I’ll carry forever. Grazie di tutto, ciao.”
Lookman leaves Atalanta as a club legend, having led the side to their first-ever European trophy.
He produced a historic performance in the 2024 European final, scoring a remarkable hat-trick against Bayer Leverkusen to secure the title.
Lookman won the African Best Player of the Year award while wearing Atalanta’s iconic blue and black colours, which cemented his legacy at the club as he became the first player in the club history to win an individual continental award.
To honour his impact, Atalanta compiled a special goal-scoring tribute video for Lookman on Instagram, accompanied by the caption:
“You will always be part of our history.”

His departure from the club was not without was drama following his transfer imbroglio in the summer of 2025 when he accused Atalanta of hindering offers.

Lookman was also forced to issue a statement in response to the ‘disrespect’ of Atalanta’s former boss and Europa League winner, Gian Piero Gasperini.
The 28 year-old was backed by the club after the public spat with Gasperini, and the Manager was forced to offer an apology.
Nonetheless, his move from Bergamo to the Spanish capital closes a historic chapter for both player and club.
