Super Eagles and Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman has expressed confidence in a better 2025 for his club after being named Man of the Match in their 1-1 draw against Lazio on Saturday night.
Lookman’s crucial assist helped Atalanta secure a point at the Stadio Olimpico in the 18th round of Serie A matches. Despite trailing, the Nerazzurri came back to level the game, extending their unbeaten run but ending an impressive eleven-game winning streak.
The draw keeps Atalanta at the top of the Serie A table, though they may relinquish the spot if Napoli secure a win over Venezia on Sunday afternoon.
Reflecting on a remarkable year, Gian Piero Gasperini’s side clinched the UEFA Europa League in 2024 and remain in contention for their first-ever Scudetto.
Lookman also capped off his stellar year by being named African Player of the Year.
Speaking after the match, Lookman emphasized the team’s resilience and ambition.
“The club had a fantastic 2024, so we want to continue to doing the same thing and the New Year will be better,” the Nigerian international told Sky Sport Italia.
“It was a tough match, the first half was very difficult for us, but we fought and on another day might have won the game.
“We drew, but we didn’t lose, so it’s positive.”
Atalanta’s first challenge of 2025 will be the Supercoppa Italiana clash against Inter Milan.
The highly anticipated match is set for January 2 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
