The much-anticipated 26-man shortlist for the 2024 FIFPRO Men’s World XI was announced on Monday, but Nigerian stars Ademola Lookman and William Troost-Ekong failed to make the cut for the prestigious accolade.
FIFPRO Men’s World XI is one of football’s most coveted awards, celebrating the best players globally by assembling an all-star team based on performances over the past year.
What sets it apart is its unique voting system determined solely by professional footballers, for professional footballers.
Despite Lookman’s impressive season in Serie A and with the Super Eagles, which many believed could earn him a spot, no Nigerian player was included in this year’s list.
The shortlist features some of football’s biggest names, including reigning Ballon d’Or winner Rodri, alongside runners-up Vinícius Júnior and Jude Bellingham.
Legendary icons Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo also secured their places, reaffirming their enduring influence on the sport.

Goalkeepers

Defenders

The final World XI will consist of a goalkeeper, three defenders, three midfielders, and three forwards with the highest votes. The 11th spot will be awarded to the outfield player with the next highest number of votes.
The official team will be revealed on December 9, as fans and players eagerly await the announcement of football’s ultimate lineup.
