Lookman, the only African player shortlisted, and Gasperini played pivotal roles in Atalanta’s Europa League victory.

The pair will head to the ceremony fresh off a strong win over Verona on Saturday.

“Another great performance from the team. The first half was fantastic; we scored five goals, and everyone played their part,” Lookman told Sky Sport Italia.

In addition to being shortlisted for the Ballon d’Or, Lookman is currently the favorite for the African Player of the Year Award, which will be announced in December.

“It’s a huge moment for the club and for me personally,” he said. “It’s a very special moment. We made history last year, and we’ll keep working hard to continue the journey.”
