Lobi Stars wants Champions League return, says Sikiru Alimi

Lobi Stars of Makurdi striker, Sikiru Alimi says it’s important for his side to finish their domestic campaign in style and return to the continent next season.

Lobi Stars represented Nigeria in the 2019 CAF Champions League but failed to make it past the group stage of the African elites competition.

Alimi who was voted man of the match after scoring his first league goal of the season in NPFL rescheduled game against Rivers United on Wednesday said the win over the Pride of Rivers is a step in the right direction for his side.

“It’s a valuable three points for us. I believe it will push us up the table, and getting my first league goal this time means a lot to me especially that it gave us the result we wanted.

“We knew Rivers United will give us a tough day, you know we are just coming back to the league after the (CAF Champions League) continental assignment.

“We know all teams will want to play us with all they have that’s why I’m not surprised Rivers United played like that. We will continue to take each game as they come and we believe we can go all the way,” he said

“Of course, its possible we want to prove a point by going back to the continent ”

Alimi who joined the Solomon Ogbeide tutored side from Sunshine Stars of Akure scored five goals to finish as Lobi Stars top scorer in the CAF Champions League.
