“Let Him Do His Job” – Okocha Reacts to Eric Chelle’s Appointment

Former Super Eagles captain, Austine Okocha, has called for patience and support for the newly appointed head coach of the national team, Eric Chelle.

Chelle, unveiled by the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF in Abuja last week, has faced widespread criticism from fans and analysts questioning his credentials for the job.

Okocha, however, stressed the importance of giving the 47-year-old Malian tactician a fair chance to prove himself.

“The decision to appoint the new coach was that of the NFF,” Okocha said during an interview with Lagos Talks FM.

“I am not disappointed. We should give him a chance; let him do his job. Football is a results game.”

The former midfield maestro emphasized the collective desire to see the Super Eagles succeed. “We all want the team to qualify for the World Cup because we all benefit when they are doing well,” he added.

On the pressure that comes with managing the Super Eagles, Okocha was frank about the stakes. “This is a results business. If we don’t qualify, God forbid, he will be the first to know he has failed.”

Okocha on Football Administration in Nigeria

When asked about the possibility of returning to football administration in Nigeria, Okocha expressed deep concerns about the systemic corruption in the country.

“The level of corruption in our country in every sector is too much. If you’re surrounded by people who always have ulterior motives and personal agendas, it just won’t work,” he stated.
