Nigeria international, Leon Balogun could be set for a summer exit from Rangers, with his current contract at Ibrox set to expire at the end of the season.
According to Football Insider, the Scottish Premiership club is unlikely to offer the experienced defender a new deal, as they reportedly aim to rejuvenate their squad with younger players ahead of the 2025/26campaign.
Balogun, however, has expressed a strong desire to continue his journey with the Glasgow side.
The 36-year-old centre-back, who rejoined Rangers for a second stint, remains passionate about the club and has not hidden his willingness to stay on.
“I’ve wanted this for ten years, to be a Rangers player, ever since I first walked through the doors,” Balogun shared in a recent interview.
“Everyone knows how much I love this club. I embrace everything it stands for. It’s really close to my heart, so if I can stay another season, I’d be more than happy.”
Despite uncertainty surrounding his future, Balogun has played a valuable role in Rangers’ campaign this season, featuring in 26 matches across all competitions.
He has also contributed a goal and an assist in that time, offering leadership and defensive solidity when called upon.
During his time with the Light Blues, the defender has won multiple trophies including the Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup during his first spell at the club, and added the Scottish League Cup to his honours list last season.
As Rangers prepare for a busy summer transfer window, Balogun’s experience and leadership qualities may still be valuable assets.
But with the club’s reported focus on youth, the veteran defender could be moving on to new pastures when his contract runs out.
For now, the Nigerian defender remains committed to finishing the season strong, and whether or not he gets a contract extension, his affection for Rangers is undeniable.
