Taiwo Awoniyi failed to find the back of the net in Nottingham Forest’s Carabao Cup debut, resulting in an 1-0 loss against Burnley on Wednesday.
Forest coach, Steve Cooper took the decision to rest Awoniyi, and named him as a substitute instead.
However, the move did not prove fruitful as Forest were toothless in the attack and failed to convert the chances they created.
Awoniyi was eventually brought on in the 88th minute, but it was too late as Zeki Amdouni’s 90th minute strike had already secured a victory for Burnley.
His compatriot, Ola Aina, was also benched for the entire match.
