Stephen Odey came off the bench in his debut for Genk, but the Nigerian could do very little to help his side avoid a first league defeat.
Odey came close to scoring despite seeing just 8 minutes in the 3-1 loss away to KV Mechelen. He replaced 21 year-old Ghanaian Midfielder Joseph Painstil.
Genk’s only goal was scored by Tanzania forward Mbwana Samatta.
Three weeks ago The Smurfs picked up the Belgian Super Cup at the expense of Mechelen with a comfortable 3-0 win, however their league title defence just hit its first snag.
Next Weekend, Genk return to the Cristal Arena, where they’ll play host to Waregem; who have lost their opening two games.
