KRC Genk decide on Yira Sor transfer

KRC Genk confirmed they are no longer interested in signing Nigerian forward Yira Sor.

Genk’s Director of Football, Dimitri De Conde made the disclosure in a chat with Belgian media outlet HLN on Wednesday.

Sor emerged as a transfer target for the Limburgers last summer, with the Jupiler League side agreeing a deal with player and his club Slavia Prague.

The deal however took another twist when Slavia Prague increased the valuation of the player subsequently and Genk were left disappointed.

With the winter transfer window approaching, the player has been linked with the Limburgers again, but Conde revealed the club has moved from the player, and now looking at other possibilities.

“Yira Sor is no longer on the list,” He said when asked if the club will try to discuss with Slavia Prague again.

“We keep positions and names of target internally. If you look at our core, you see that our attacking compartment and our defense are not very wide.”

“But that also plays into how the injuries of Sadick – we believe very much in him – and Luca Oyen. We also intend to do what is necessary for Jong Genk,” He said.

Despite losing Junya Ito, Theo Bongodani and Cyriel Dessers, Genk are top of the table, with the combination of Paul Onuachu and Mike Tresor in the attack.

Conde said the club is ambitious and want to bring in new players to help the team, adding that discussions are ongoing with the coach, Wouter Vrancken.

“There is absolutely no need to add anything, but it will happen. There are always discussions with the coach, the sporting committee and the board about what we need and what is possible.

“We are ambitious. It is not the intention to come out of the mercato weakened,” He concluded.
