El-Kanemi football club of Maiduguri made it two wins out of two as they defeated another league favourite Kano Pillars 2-1 in the 2018/2019 Nigeria professional football league Group B matchday two fixture on Thursday.

After downing Akwa United at their backyard 1-0 in the opening match, El-Kanemi quickly turned their attention to the visit of the wounded Sai Masu Gida side who recently lost Junior Lokosa to Esperance of Tunisia.

The match began with excitement as Former Pillars forward Bello Kofarmata gave El-Kanemi the lead in the 20th minute before Rabiu Ali restored the parity for the Sai Masu Gida in the 45th minute.

The second lacked plenty of clear cut chances as Pillars sat deep to protect their point, but Rasaq Aliyu has another idea as he grabbed the much needed second goal for El-kanemi in the 71st minute.

The drama wasn’t over yet, As  Kofarmata who a hero turned villain when he got sent off for elbowing Pillars Victor Dennis with four minutes remaining.

The result takes  El-Kanemi to the top of Group B ahead of FC Ifeanyi Ubah who also recorded a 1-0 victory over Nasarawa United on Wednesday.

In week 3 fixture. El-Kanemi will be the guests of  Plateau United in Ilorin while Pillars host Akwa United.
