Kevin Akpoguma’s Head Injury Troubles Doctor, Peseiro

Kevin Akpoguma might require further examinations on the head injury he sustained on Friday, in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Nigeria and Guinea Bissau.

Akpoguma was assisted off the pitch a challenge in the air with a Guinea-Bissau player left him bloodied, needing stapling and a bandage to stop the heavy bleeding.

However, the player couldn’t continue the match and he was replaced with Oluwasemilogo Ajayi in the 55th minute.

Giving an update on the extent of the 27 year-old’s head injury, Peseiro said:
“I spoke with the doctor, and he has concerns,” the Super Eagles coach offered.

“The big concern is that the Doctor was more worried because he (Akpoguma) felt pains in the head.”

But, Peseiro didn’t stop there, he went further to lay into the Match Referee, Mahmoud El Banna over his handling of the situation.

Expressing his disappointment, Jose Peseiro argues that the Referee should have shown a red rather than just issuing a caution.

“That situation (Akpoguma’s head Injury) should have been a red card, but the opponent got just a yellow.

“Also, normally we should have gotten 10minutes added time for the injury and other stoppages.”
