Kenneth Omeruo Reveals Chelsea Regret

Nigerian CB Kenneth Omeruo has revealed some of the circumstances that lead to the end of his career as a Chelsea player.

Omeruo was on the books of Chelsea from Standard Liege as a youth player in 2012 to 2019, however, he failed to make a single appearance for the club, and was sent out on loan numerous times including stints to ADO Den Haag, Middlesbrough, Kasimpasa, Alanyaspor, and CD Leganes.

The defender is now with Kasimpasa in what is his third stint with the club after two previous loan spells, but says his big regret at Chelsea was doing what then manager Jose Mourinho asked.

In a chat with Brila Media, Omeruo revealed how the decision to leave on loan to Middlesbrough was facilitated by Mourinho.

He expressed his regrets about the situation as he believed things could have taken a different turn if he managed the situation better.

“I think going back to Middlesbrough instead of QPR who were in the Premier League at the time was a mistake.

“Jose Mourinho wanted me to play in Middlesbrough because the manager was his friend (Aitor Karanka) and he also played his style of football. But that was my one mistake because I wasn’t getting game time.

“At a point I lost my head and had a bad season. The next season I could have played for Chelsea but I injured my shoulder and that was it,” he told Brila Media.
