Kanu Makes Sevilla home Debut but Fails to Get First Goal since Spain Move

Uchenna Kanu made her home debut in the Primera División de la Liga de Fútbol Femenino for Sevilla Femenino on Saturday, but the striker continues to wait for her first goal.

Kanu, 22, made the switch from the USA – after her College program – to Spain and joined Sevilla in January.

The Nigeria international has made two appearances for Sevillistas, making her debut as a substitute in the 3-0 away defeat at the hands of Barcelona.

On Saturday, Sevilla Manager Cristian Toro threw the Striker into the fray right from the start, but the striker couldn’t find the back of the net.

Sevilla are 11th on the log and have not won a game since January, losing one and draw another game.

Saturday’s draw came courtesy of two first-half goals, an own goal by Aldana Cometti (18′) to give EDF Logrono the lead, before Jenni Morilla (39′) scored to level for Sevilla.

In his post remarks, Toro said, ‘We had many occasions, but the success was missing.’

‘In the first 15 minutes we had four or five very clear occasions and while we struggled to find the back of the net, we conceded the goal.

‘We had several more occasions in the first half and in the second two hand.

‘I think we lacked a bit of speed and win duels at the defensive level, specifically the one-on-one that came easily from our side.

‘With the few situations they had, they hurt us and in the end we could have run out of points.

‘The best thing that can come to us now is to rest today and tomorrow and come to work on Monday with enthusiasm in the following week.’
