Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp has defended Super Eagles first choice goalie Daniel Akpeyi following his high profile error that led to the Club’s third league defeat on Saturday.
Akpeyi was one of the reason the Amakhosi lost 2-1 to Maritzburg United on Saturday and some of the Club fans have again called on the club manager to drop him to the bench.
Middendorp also explained that Akpeyi will continue to be choosen ahead of home favorite Itumelenge Khune who has suffered a reoccurring injury this season.
“I know it’s something that the entire country is looking into [that Khune must start ahead of Daniel Akpeyi],” Middendorp told reporters.
“This one must play, this one must play but are you really convinced that our goalkeeping coaching department is not able to see what’s going on and when the time is right? Are you really thinking we just do because whatever?” Middendor quizzed.
