Chelsea manager Frank Lampard wants to bring a new striker this month and are in talks to sign Napoli forward Dries Mertens.
Chelsea’s first bid for Dries Mertens was rejected, but Chelsea will make a SECOND bid for the Belgian forward before 11pm tonight.
Napoli’s stance on Mertens could be seen as quite surprising, with the Telegraph reporting that the 32-year-old’s current contract expires at the end of the season.
Mertens has nine goals and four assists from 22 appearances across Serie A and the Champions League this season.
At 32 years old, he obviously seems a short-term fix to Chelsea’s lack of a consistently quality backup up top forward.
