Nigeria forward, Joy Omewa was the hero for Fortuna Hjorring as they came from behind to defeat Odense 2-1 in their final match of the Danish Women’s League regular season on Saturday at the Nature Energy Park.
Odense took the lead in the 24th minute when Dikte Bang fired home to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage at halftime.
However, Fortuna responded after the break with an equalizer from Anastasia Pobegaylo in the 63rd minute, leveling the score at 1-1.
In the 80th minute, Fortuna were awarded a penalty, and Omewa stepped up to confidently convert, securing her 11th goal of the season and the match-winner for her side.
The forward played the full 90 minutes, finishing as the league’s top scorer with 11 goals and providing four assists in 14 league appearances.
Omewa’s goal capped a successful season for Fortuna Hjorring, who topped the league table with 36 points after 14 games, ahead of the upcoming playoffs in 2025, where they will battle for the league title and a spot in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
The team’s next challenge will be a quarter-final clash with Koge in the 2025 Danish Cup.
