Super Eagles boss, Jose Peseiro is focusing on the Africa Cup of Nations after naming his final 25-man squad for the tournament.

Peseiro, 63, unveiled his team for the tournament to be hosted by Cote D’Ivoire on Friday.

The Portuguese’s squad is one of the strongests in Africa at the moment, along with record winners Egypt, Morocco and defending Champions Senegal.

In a recent interview with Egyptian press, the Super Eagles coach said his aim is to lift the tournament with Nigeria.

“My experience with the Nigerian national team is very good. Being part of African and Nigerian football is an interesting thing, and I cannot deny that,” he told KORAPLUS.

“I told everyone that I wanted to win the Africa Cup of Nations from the first moment I signed the contract with the Nigerian national team, and we study our opponents well in order to win, and this is what we seek to achieve.

The Super Eagles will face hosts Cote D’Ivoire, Guinea Bissau and Equatorial Guinea in Group A.

“I expect strong and difficult competition in the current edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, and the teams that participate are all distinguished and want to win the title.

Peseiro acknowledges his team’s title candidacy but thinks Egypt can also pose a challenge.

“There are many strong teams that are candidates to win the AFCON, such as the Egyptian national team, which is the best in the continent of Africa, and I believe that it is a candidate to win the current version of the AFCON.”

The 2023 AFCON is set to commence in Ivory Coast on January 13.
